What actually is a notification?
It used to mean being informed of something important that could have a significant impact …maybe something that needed an urgent action.
Now we have streams of ‘notifications’ every day on our smartphones … notifications about who’s liked your cat post, recently discovered what kind of crisp flavour they are or shared a highly filtered photo.
Each time we get distracted, stop what we’re doing and end up scrolling our lives away, searching for an instant dopamine hit whilst our brains are getting rewired to ever shortening attention spans.
Maybe the meaning hasn’t in fact changed.
