Combining medicine and baking – providing baking lessons for children with disabilities.
As a paediatric GP I will be running individual lessons for children with disabilities to address any medical, psychological or educational issues they have. I will work with the families to maximise their child’s life potential, all whilst making sweet treats!
Free initial assessment for any child with a disability.
I will be running the business as a social enterprise, so I aim to employ the children that I teach when they become old enough. Anyone who buys a cake from Dr Bakes knows that they are contributing to the local economy and providing employment for disadvantaged young adults.
I hope that in the future Therapeutic Baking will become recognised as a service that could benefit all families – I would love to take the message of improving mental and physical health through baking into the local communities, schools and the NHS.
About Business Owner, Leshmi Rajan
I grew up in Cardiff but lived in London for over 10 years and then India for a year. I have a 5 year old son.
I love music in all forms – play the violin (Grade 8 and member of Newport Orchestra), love to dance (choreograph bollywood dancing and keen latin dancer) and love listening to all sorts but especially live jazz.
I love teaching – I’m an examiner for Cardiff University Medical School, regularly teach medical students and talk to 6th form students with advice on getting into medical school.
I learned yoga and meditation whilst out in India and practice daily.
