Recently I’ve been using Hampton by Hilton in Newport (East), South Wales. A lot. In fact it’s become my go-to venue for business meetings and events in the Newport and Monmouthshire area.
This got me thinking about what it is that works there and that keeps me coming back. What is it that they are doing right? And what does this tell us about business success?
1. Get The Basics Right
Whatever your business, your customers will have expectations that you must get right every single time.
Hampton by Hilton has a great, comfortable, business-friendly lounge serving fantastic (and very reasonably priced) coffee, superb breakfast and light snacks and has good free WiFi. There is also ample, free parking and the hotel is just off the M4 (junction 23a).
The rooms are smart and comfortable so I can be confident when recommending it to my event delegates who might need to stay overnight and there are two flexible event spaces, ideal for training or private meetings.
This ticks all the boxes when I’m meeting clients or running events there – it (more than) meets by minimum requirements that I expect from any hotel that’s geared for business customers.
2. Know Your Market and Provide For It
Do you know who your market are? Where they hang out? And what they really want?
The Hampton by Hilton brand knows where it’s at and what its target market wants. The hotel has a feel of understated luxury and personal service about it even though it’s priced firmly in the mid-range hotel sector. Unlike many budget hotels, it hasn’t stripped away the joy of staying in a hotel room but it hasn’t added superfluous extras that would otherwise bump up the price . In short you get an overall impression and feeling that it’s ‘just right’ and the sort of place you’d feel happy to meet professional clients and associates in or stay the night in. It’s ideal for the business or leisure traveller needing to access Cardiff, Newport, Monmouthshire & Bristol and wanting comfort, convenience and service but without the massive price tag.
Are you going above and beyond to engage with your customers and connect strategically with other businesses?
Hampton by Hilton, though a UK wide chain associated with a global brand, has developed strong connections with local businesses and the local community as a whole. It adds value to the local economy and local people and businesses are happy to recommend it to their friends and associates. The hospitality and management teams in the hotel actively seek out feedback from their customers, whether they are an independent travellers, small businesses or corporate companies.
